Aune Osborn Campground lies along 20 acres of waterfront property on the lower St. Mary's River. It is an excellent location to watch the lake freighters as they make their way to and from the Soo Locks. The western end of the campground houses 100 modern (water & electric) sites. The following amenities are open to the public: showers and restrooms, boat launch, fish cleaning station, RV dump station, and phones.

Even though we had some rain during our visit to this incredible campground, it was still a great trip! The staff was wonderful, always helpful and make the campground special. Very clean and friendly campground. What a treat it was to watch the huge freighters travel past us on their way back or to the Soo Locks. We will definitely be back! You can?t go wrong by camping here.

Always a great view of the Saint Mary's River watching the freighters go by. Glad the showers were open for Labor Day weekend. Bathrooms were clean. Would recommend putting a playground back in, I always loved playing there as a child and now sad that my children can't enjoy what I did as a kid. We brought a frisbee and football which were fun to play with but when it's windy it's hard to control. Please bring back the playground.0% of the users found this review helpful.
We always enjoy staying at Aune Osborn. There is no other place where we can watch freighters pass from inside our trailer.or outside at a close distance. There is usually something interesting going on. The recent improvements are certainly welcome. I have only two suggestions #1. Lake Osborn on site 14 appears only after a heavy rain. Why not make it permanent and stocked it with fish, or fill and level it, or drain the basin that collects the water. :). #2 at times we have difficulty with wi fi in the same location.0% of the users found this review helpful.
We had a great time, we?ve stayed many times, on our site we can see freighters & close to WiFi, we were disappointed that the showers were closed, but thankful the bathrooms were open. Suggestion: get rid of the spiders & webs by the lights. We will return.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We were very disappointed that there were no showers available. We camped at State Parks and Private Parks this summer and all had access to showers. I understand budget was an issue. I guess you need to increase it then if we're paying for the use of a shower but not able to shower. Are you never going to open showers again?? We did drive to Brimley and pd $5/person to shower.0% of the users found this review helpful.
Once we found the campgrounds we always enjoyed staying there, over 10 years, reason was to watch the freighters. I had to take a year off. Just returned, due to Covid the showers were closed, I question the decision as the state campgrounds showers were open.0% of the users found this review helpful.
Have been staying at Aune Osburn for over 15 years as annual trip. Little disappointed in lack of showers, was told do to budget cuts. Not really sure they cared if campers were inconvenienced, didn't offer any, assistance such as a dump tank to use for campers unprepared. New Parks & Rec manager needs to step up his game if he wants to keep campers happy.100% of the users found this review helpful.
Well we have made this our 6th year at Aune Osborn Campground and was sad to see the Office in bad shape needing paint and renovations. No showers open and the hallways were dark with no lights on in the hallways at night.0% of the users found this review helpful.
We thoroughly enjoy this park... the location, the staff, cleanliness of the restrooms. Very disappointing during these times to not have the showers though. No reduction in rate, another sad thing... even a dollar or two... We stayed 3 nights... 2 people showering, etc... fills the tank pretty quick... even military shower style. We also understand this is a tough decision. We stay here often and will return.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We love this park - best place to view freighters and very close to town. We stayed twice in June 2020 - both times, the restrooms were open, but showers closed. Both times, the staff indicated they had many requests to open the showers, but people at a "higher level" wanted them closed. No opening date was available. This is a huge problem for those staying more than a few nights, as there are no sewer hookups in this park - only water and electric on every site. Hard to wash well and prevent COVID when the very nice showers are closed (I know they are very nice from visits in previous years). No reduction in rate was offered.100% of the users found this review helpful.
Stayed here many times. Always clean and well kept. Staff is always very helpful and restrooms are clean. register early to get the best water sites. Alot of ships, boats and activity on the river and many things to see in the area.0% of the users found this review helpful.
We stayed at site 100 which is very spacious. Staff were helpful. Wifi was very poor. Extra treat was watching the National Guard launching boats and amphibious bridges to practice on every day. Recommend Locksite Restaurant for breakfast and Maloney's Alley for lunch. The park at the locks is full of information about the locks and the boats that go through.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We have stayed in this campground for years. We have made friends and love to get together with them here. Things have changed this year with the management going to the city. Reservations need to be paid 100% when they are made. This is the first time that dogs have been an issue for us, in the lot next to us #81, they were happy to tell us their dog was 228 lb Mastiff and had another very large dog and did not tie them up. Imagine having our 10lb dog in the same area. In another situation a pitbull broke loose from a leash and attacked a dog luckily neither was hurt. We heard of yet another dog to dog attack while we were there for 2 weeks. Owners are definitely not picking up the poop from their dogs. Rules and their enforcement must be stepped up or the campground will falter and that would be so sad as it is a fantastic park!!! 5 stars for park-2 stars for their control and response to reported dog incidents.100% of the users found this review helpful.
My husband and I recently stayed two days at Aune Osborn and had a lovely experience. We are self-contained, so I cannot comment on the campground facilities with the exception of the poor WiFi reception that we have come to expect when using a public system in a campground. For our needs the campground was PERFECT. We made the MISTAKE of staying two nights at the Soo Locks Campground - which is essentially a paved parking lot with pot holes and management from HELL and we will NEVER do that again!!100% of the users found this review helpful.
Would be 5-star is pads were concrete or paved, and sites had sewer connections. Stayed in our Class A, 45' motorhome with F150 truck. Clean showers, restrooms, laundry. Paved streets, gravel/grassy sites. Open campground, only about 3 sites have any shade to speak of. Friendly staff. Adjacent boat launch. Dual dump station. May need a long elec cord or extended water hose to reach the connections (usually at the rear of the site). Excellent location to see the locks & the area. Roads easy to navigate. About 24 waterfront sites and several other sites have a partial water view. Benches at the waterfront to watch all the water activity. Would stay again.100% of the users found this review helpful.
This was our 3rd trip to Aune Osborn and it has become one of our favorite spots. We love watching the freighters. Our site this time of 91 and stayed 6 days, so we had a great view. The campground is clean and well kept. The staff is wonderful. More older campers than younger which is fine with us. Our grandkids had a wonderful trying to be the first to spot the freighters. We will be back. Warning for parents and grandparents. There is not a playground. The only thing I could criticize is the staff needs to stress to people checking in about picking up the dog poop and there a were a lot of dogs (I will say very well behaved). My husband cleaned several piles that many dog owners just left in the common area next to the river and we didn't even have dog with us, but didn't want anyone to step in it. We will be back. Love it here.100% of the users found this review helpful.
Spent 2 nights on site #99. I have no idea how we lucked out and got a waterfront site but Wow.. how relaxing to just sit, read and watch the occasional ship go by. My husband became very knowledgeable about the whistles and what each meant! Our only issue was the set up with the electric being on one side of the site and the water being on the other. We had our cords stretched to the limit to make it work. Still a wonderful, relaxing place to stay.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We stayed at site 7 with a 30' trailer. Good breeze from the river kept the temp just right. We could see the river from our window. Kudos to the city for free boat launches and public river space. Nice clean spacious campground, friendly staff, and we will be back.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We stayed a week at Site # 60 for a week and couldn't believe how much the park has been improved. The grounds looked better, the restrooms and showers were much better maintained than before. We have been coming to Aune Osborn for 10 years and this is the best the park has been. Thank you, City of Sault Ste. Marie !!!100% of the users found this review helpful.
We stayed for 6 nites this year (last year 3 weeks) and found the park to be better maintained and cleaner than in the past. Staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed on sites 17 and 52 - both nice. This is a great place to stay for exploring all of the Eastern UP.100% of the users found this review helpful.
Was nice to see that the City is working to alleviate the drainage issues which have occurred in prior years. Also, the staff is very helpful and focused on your stay. We stayed on sites 17 and 52, different but both good. Restrooms, shower and laundry all clean and well maintained. Will stay again.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We stayed in Site 36, it was a nice site. There is no sewer and few trees but the view is terrific. The freighters are frequent and my husband was out there every time a whistle went off. The day staff was very friendly. I did have to complain to a weekend person about some dogs that were left in the camper next to us ALL DAY whining and crying. It was very annoying but I imagine you have that sometimes anywhere you go.100% of the users found this review helpful.
Sites on the water front are hard to come by, but, just get any site and take a chair or grab a seat on the benches by the water to watch the Freighters pass by, day and night. It is a great location, and you can drive the 3-4 miles up the road to see the locks and the boats enter and leave all for free. The campground lots are plenty big, the bathrooms are extremely clean, and there is a small laundry area also. A short bike ride or walk gets you to the fast food place named Clydes. A golf course is across the street from the campground. A party store is across the street also. Within 5 miles is a meijers and a Super Walmart. There was something mezmerizing about watching those freighters cruise by. We really enjoyed ourselves. Oh; bring your boat, there is a public boat launch right next to the camp ground. Have fun.100% of the users found this review helpful.
We were here 15 years ago and it is still a great place to stay. Well run and well maintained. Download one of the Marine tracking app so you can know in advance when those beautiful 1000 foot freighters will be passing by. Nice laundry and mail accepted.100% of the users found this review helpful.
